Housing Recovery Program
About the Program
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has allocated $210 million to Sarasota County Community Development Block Grant-Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR), known as Resilient SRQ, to aid the long-term recovery from hurricanes Debby, Helene and Milton for low-to-moderate income individuals. A prior allocation of $201.5 million has been awarded for Hurricane Ian.
Resilient SRQ has multiple programs, one of those being the Housing Recovery Program. This program has a total of $33.3 million allocated for the rehabilitation, reconstruction and reimbursement to eligible homeowners impacted by hurricanes Debby, Helene and Milton.
Application Steps
Step 1: Submit the homeowner interest survey online. Users must sign up for an account and log in to access the survey.
Step 2: Conditionally eligible applicants will be invited to complete a full application.
Step 3: Applicants will be assigned an eligibility specialist to assist with questions, finalize the application and complete required documents.
Step 4: Program staff will conduct a home inspection to verify completed repairs and identify any remaining work needed.
Step 5: Award determination - if applicant is eligible:
A. For reimbursement of repairs completed prior to submitting an application, funds will be distributed to the homeowner.
B. For rehabilitation or reconstruction requests, a Sarasota County contractor will be assigned to begin the process.
Minimum Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for the CDBG-DR Housing Recovery program, applicants must meet the following criteria:
1. Own the damaged home. (currently and at the time of the qualifying disaster)
2. Have experienced home damage from the disaster.
3. Use the home as their primary residence. (currently and at the time of the qualifying disaster)
4. Maintain a mortgage in good standing or be on a payment plan in good standing.
5. Have a household income at or below 120% of Sarasota County’s area median income (AMI).
